We walked every route at five widths, from a very narrow 320 pixel screen up to a tablet, measuring each element instead of trusting the layout to behave.

What came out of it: the legal links in the footer were only 16 pixels tall, too small to tap reliably, the controls in the top bar were between 28 and 34, and some tabs and chips were smaller than a fingertip. They are now 40, 44 or padded to 29 depending on where they sit.

The FAQ theme cards were also breaking long words in the middle of the word on a narrow screen. Under 620 pixels they use two columns now, so titles wrap between words and nothing sticks out of the card.
